Woosh there it goes :) Told you so. But as most of you probably did not vote yet, here’s the second point I want to make.
Involvement
Get the board involved in and informed about all major parts of our community so it really can represent the whole project.
Reasoning
One of the nicest aspects of the FOSS community is that you can just show up. Once you master that magic trick you can start to do stuff for the project immediately. Just be there, listen in and see which tasks need to be done. Mastering this trick is however not that easy. It requires a lot of time and that’s something most of us do not have too much off. But with 5 people available in the board you should be able to cover a lot of ground in openSUSE land.
Examples
The KDE and GNOME teams have bi-weekly meetings in IRC, so do others. There are a lot of threads in the forums where a board member could greatly clarify things. So there are on the mailinglists. Often people come to our IRC channels and ask questions related to the project and discussions take place on various Talk pages in the wiki. I’m very well aware that you can’t cover everything, all the time so this can’t be the goal. But there are a lot of opportunities to get the board involved. There is no need to wait until someone comes running to you with his problem. Just pop up at the existing opportunities to make a difference.
